7 Strategies for Your Job Search

Transitioning to a new career can be a daunting experience, particularly when it comes to searching for a new job. It is important to approach the job search process in a strategic and efficient manner.

The traditional method of job searching involves scouring job boards and company websites for open positions. However, this can be a time-consuming and frustrating process. Instead, consider utilizing remote job search platforms such as FlexJobs or Remote.co, which specialize in curating and aggregating job postings for remote work opportunities.

Remote work has become increasingly popular due to the pandemic, and many companies have shifted to remote work models permanently. By utilizing these platforms, you can expand your job search beyond your local area and even consider working for companies in other cities or countries. 2. Participate in Industry-Specific Online Communities

Online communities related to your target industry can be a valuable resource for job searching. Consider joining industry-specific forums or online groups on social media platforms such as Facebook or LinkedIn. Social media is a powerful tool that can help you to expand your network and connect with potential employers. As a teacher, you may be accustomed to using social media to communicate with students, parents, and colleagues, but it can also be a valuable tool for job searching.

Firstly, update your social media profiles, particularly LinkedIn, to reflect your career aspirations and make sure that you’re searchable for your desired industry. Also, follow influencers in your target industry, connect with people in your desired role, and participate in discussions relevant to your target industry. You can also create content related to your career transition or experiences that showcases your skills and knowledge in the field. This can help you build credibility and attract the attention of potential employers.

4. Consider Non-Traditional Work Arrangements

Many professionals are seeking more flexible work arrangements, such as freelance work, part-time work, or project-based work. These types of arrangements can provide more flexibility and control over your schedule and can also allow you to gain valuable experience and build your network.

This strategy saved me countless dollars, hours and headaches helping me to understand what I wanted to do and what type of company I wanted to work for.

Identify professionals in your target industry who you admire and respect and reach out to them for an informational interview. Hell reach out to those same college buddies. You can ask about their experiences, the skills and qualifications they believe are important in the industry, and for any advice they may have for someone looking to break into the field.

7. Get Tactical

Set a goal for a certain number of job applications per week and track them. I did 2 a day during the 5 day work week for 75 days. Keep record of the company, job title, job description (preferably a screenshot), and date applied . This approach ensures that you consistently put effort into your job search and can help you stay motivated and focused on your goal. By setting a specific number of job applications per week, you can also track your progress and adjust your strategy as needed. Additionally, saving screenshots of each job application can be beneficial for several reasons. Firstly, it can help you keep track of the jobs you have applied for and ensure that you follow up on any applications you haven’t heard back from. Secondly, it can help you to review and analyze your job search strategy, identifying which companies and industries are responding positively to your applications and which ones are not. Finally, it can provide a record of your job search in case you get called for an interview and can’t remember what you applied for. It happens more than you think.
