Alright folks, let’s talk about Principal Ava from NBC’s Abbott Elementary. A perfect imperfection! I know some of you might be thinking that she’s the show’s villain, but let me tell you, she’s actually everyone’s spirit animal. That’s right, as much as I may roll my eyes at some of her antics she has my respect. With her quick wit, no-nonsense attitude, bubbly personality and quick accountability. In this blog post, we’ll explore why Principal Ava is everyone’s spirit animal and what we can learn from her example. So grab your coffee, settle in, and let me explain why Principal Ava is the real MVP.
Principal Ava is a hustler and inspiration, whether it’s gold eye masks or her own brand she gets to the bag. But she doesn’t do it just for herself he also does it within the educational setting. Let’s get to the biggest criticism of Ava, she got her job through blackmail and is all about herself. But she shows up to work most days and when she is a part of things they really seem to benefit from her involvement. In the fundraising episode, she not only met the goal she exceeded it. She turned around the step team and really empowered the girls.
Principal Ava is also unapologetically herself. She doesn’t try to be anyone else and is not afraid to speak her mind or stand up for what she believes in. This kind of authenticity is something that many people aspire to, and it’s what makes Principal Ava such an inspiring character. Whether she’s dealing with difficult parents or navigating a tricky situation with her staff, she always stays true to herself, which we can all learn from. And when she is wrong baby you’ll know, she’ll tell you my bad what happened and keep it moving. Is it inconsiderate still?….Very. But I love people who are upfront with their mistakes. We all should be.
Principal Ava is the kind of boss who inspires loyalty and respect while keeping it real at all times. For someone who supposedly doesn’t do their job the teachers aren’t coming for her neck and the students seem to like her. She is seen speaking at an educational conference so clearly she is respected by her principal peers. When students are sent to the office she shows compassion and understanding. Sure, she can be harsh sometimes, but she has shown tremendous growth over the course of the show unlike some others *cough cough Janine* . She’s not afraid to tell it how it is, and gives out a few tough love pep talks when necessary. Personally, I can’t stand the veiled double speak in professional standings. I want to know where I stand. Maybe we should all do at little more of that too.
Lastly, Principal Ava is also a master of self-care, another reason she’s everyone’s spirit animal. Despite the many demands on her time and energy, she always finds ways to care for herself. She knows that self-care is essential for staying happy and healthy. In corporate careers we all have the tendency to lead our self-care to slaughter as a sacrifice for what? Her kind of self-awareness and commitment to self-care is something that we can all strive for.
Bonus: Let’s not forget about her killer fashion sense. I mean, have you seen those blazers, dresses and cardigans? She’s like a walking fashion statement. Plus, she knows how to rock a pair of heels like nobody’s business. Who says you can’t be a boss lady and still look fabulous doing it?
Folks, let’s all take a page out of Principal Ava’s book. Let’s be unapologetically ourselves, let’s stand up for what we believe in, be honest, let’s push ourselves and our coworkers to be the best they can be, and let’s do it all with a killer sense of style. Principal Ava might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we could take a few notes.
